  • Description

The ARC TCB60 Flanged Cavity Barrier provides high-level fire protection for timber frame constructions. This barrier offers up to 60 minutes of fire integrity and 15 minutes of insulation, ensuring the safety and integrity of your building. Measuring 75 x 75 x 1200mm, it is suitable for cavity widths up to 60mm. Each bag contains 35 pieces, making it a cost-effective solution for large construction projects. The barrier is made from non-combustible rockfibre mineral wool with a thermal conductivity of 0.037W/mK and is encased in a durable polythene sleeve for added weather protection and ease of handling.

    Installation Guide:

Option 1: Fixing to Timber Frame Before Brickwork

    1. Prepare the Barrier:
      • Measure and cut the barrier to the required length if necessary.
      • Use the polythene flanges to fix the ARC TCB60 to the timber frame inner leaf.
    2. Fix the Barrier:
      • Secure the barrier using clout nails or staples at approximately 150mm centers.
      • For vertical installations, use both flanges. For horizontal installations, use only the top flange.
    3. Ensure Tight Fit:
      • Butt joint lengths tightly at the end of a run or at corners to ensure no gaps remain.
    4. Complete Brickwork:
      • Lay brickwork to create the cavity, compressing the ARC TCB60 to its required fit.

Option 2: Building in as Brickwork Progresses

    1. Prepare the Brickwork:
      • Build the brickwork up to the level where the barrier will be installed, ensuring the cavity width is correct.
      • Allow the brickwork to set.
    2. Install the Barrier:
      • Push fit the barrier into place under the correct compression.
      • Butt joint lengths tightly at the end of a run or at corners to ensure no gaps remain.

    General Tips & Advice:

    • The polythene encapsulation and flanges help hold the barrier in place and offer weather protection, but do not contribute to the barrier's performance. Leave the polythene intact.
    • Ensure the cavity width matches the design width for the installed barrier.
    • Avoid squashing the barrier before installation, as this can cause gaps and reduce performance.
