Brick Reveal Support Plate
Create a stable ledge for full-brick returns in seconds
A brick reveal looks crisp but the first course can slump without something to bear on. Reveal support plates solve the problem: a slim stainless angle slides into the outer-leaf bed joint and forms a ledge that carries the first 215 mm (or 327.5 mm) of brickwork until it gains strength. Once the reveal bricks have cured, the plate is buried and forgotten—yet the masonry is perfectly aligned and crack-free.
Spechunter stocks the market’s trusted options:
Ancon Reveal Support Plate – 304 SS, laser-etched orientation arrow.
IG Masonry Support Reveal Plate – 215 mm & 327.5 mm standards.
Vista Window Reveal Support – cost-effective galvanised or stainless.
All plates are non-combustible, corrosion-proof for 60+ years and arrive pre-cut to 215 mm or 327.5 mm depths—no site grinding.

Where and why to use a reveal support plate
1 – Stop settlement cracks
The lower reveal bricks are in shear until the return gains height. A plate provides immediate support so joints don’t creep.
2 – Speed up bricklaying
Lay the outer leaf to one course above plate level, drop the plate in, add reveal bricks and keep moving—no propping or temporary angles.
3 – Keep bed joints continuous
Because the plate is only 3 mm thick it sits within the mortar, maintaining brick coursing without visible hardware.
Choosing the right plate
Reveal depth | Standard SKU | Finish | Best used with |
---|---|---|---|
215 mm (full brick) | Ancon 83ARS • IG RSP-215 • Vista WR215 | 304 SS (316 on request) | Traditional returns under 3 storeys |
327.5 mm (1½ bricks) | IG RSP-327 • Ancon RSP-327 | 304 SS | Deep reveals or soldier returns |
Bespoke | Made-to-order | 304 SS / 316 SS | Arches, splayed jambs |
Add Fixings & Fasteners stainless screws if you’re face-fixing plates to concrete or steel frames.
Installation in three quick steps
Set the level – build the outer leaf to one course above the required plate position.
Bed the plate – lay a full mortar bed, slide the long leg into the joint with the arrow pointing inwards, ensuring 100 mm bearing each side of the opening.
Build reveal bricks – place the reveal return bricks onto the projecting flange; continue outer-leaf coursing as normal.
Top tip: keep the cavity clean below the plate by using a cavity tray or board—dropped mortar will obstruct weeps.
Compatibility & accessories
Ties to cavity bricks – use frame ties or Type 2 ties at 225 mm crs into the reveal.
Movement joints – leave a 10 mm gap to the next linear brick mesh and bridge with a stainless movement tie.
Channel restraints – for wider cavities add a 25/14 Channel System above the reveal to control differential movement.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to wedge the plate?
No—the long leg is fully embedded in mortar. Simply ensure the outer leaf is at least one course high above the plate before loading the reveal brick.
Galvanised or stainless?
External masonry always demands stainless (304 inland, 316 coastal). Galvanised is acceptable only for sheltered internal reveals.
What about arched heads?
Order bespoke curved plates; lead time 5–7 working days. Email drawings via our contact page.
Can I get calculations for NHBC?
Yes—we supply Ancon / IG load tables and can liaise with your engineer to confirm bearing lengths.
Is next-day delivery guaranteed?
Order before noon, meet the £200 ex-VAT threshold and check our delivery information for remote-area surcharges.
