Type 1 Wall Ties
Type 1 ties are the workhorses of tall and exposed masonry. They’re specified where the outer leaf must resist >1 kN tension/compression—think coastal apartment blocks, hospitals, schools and steel-frame façades over 15 m high. All ties below are Grade 304 or 316 stainless, independently tested to BS EN 845-1 and fully compliant with PD 6697 Table 12 spacing rules.
Order before 12:00 and spend £200 ex-VAT for free next-day UK delivery.

What makes a Type 1 tie different?
> 1.0 kN design resistance in both tension & compression.
Deep pressed drip prevents water tracking to the inner leaf.
Tangle-free profile (Vista VST1 & TT1) speeds laying—no knots in the bucket.
A4 options for marine or chemical works (call for lead times).
Pair with insulation-retaining clips to keep partial-fill boards snug against the inner skin.
Installation essentials
Density – 2.5 ties / m² (450 mm vertical × 900 mm horizontal); double within 225 mm of openings.
Embedment – 50 ± 10 mm in each leaf; drip centred in the cavity.
Compression sleeves – slip a stainless sleeve over ties when cavities exceed 150 mm.
Mixing metals – always match stainless ties with stainless fixings and restraint channels to avoid bimetallic staining.
For cast-in channels on high-rise frames see 21/18 Omega Channel & SP21 Ties.
Frequently asked questions
When must I specify Type 1?
Buildings >15 m tall
Wind-loading category “Very Severe” (BS 6399 / Eurocode C4)
Any façade panel over 9 m high without a structural shelf angle
Can I use galvanised Type 1 ties externally?
No. External masonry must be stainless; galvanised is limited to protected internal walls.
Will Type 1 improve acoustic separation?
Yes—the heavier section increases stiffness at cavity ties, aiding flanking-sound control in tall blocks.
