Liquid DPM

Liquid DPM

Liquid Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) is a brush- or spray-applied membrane that creates a continuous, seamless moisture barrier in floors, walls and foundations. Unlike sheet DPMs that require careful jointing and detailing, liquid DPM eliminates seams and conforms to complex geometries — particularly useful at junctions, around services and on uneven substrates.

Spechunter stocks liquid DPM products from Visqueen, Everbuild and IKO — covering bitumen-based, polymer-modified and tanking-grade systems for residential, commercial and below-ground applications.

What's in the Range

Everbuild 901 Black Jack Bitumen Paint 5L Tin — quick-drying waterproof bitumen paint. Suitable for iron, steel, concrete, wood, masonry and felt. Common applications: undersealing, foundation waterproofing, flat roof maintenance.

Visqueen Axiom Uniseal 15.6kg tin — high-performance tanking and DPM coating. For below-ground waterproofing and floor-slab damp-proofing where a robust, long-life membrane is required.

The wider range also includes IKO Pro Synthaprufe, Everbuild 908 and other brush-applied systems — all available for next-day UK delivery.

Liquid DPM vs Sheet DPM

Liquid DPM is preferred when:

  • The substrate is uneven or has multiple penetrations (services, columns, drainage)
  • The application is small-scale or detailing-heavy (sleeve through-walls, junction details)
  • A seamless coating is needed for tanking and below-ground waterproofing
  • Refurbishment work where lifting the existing floor for sheet DPM isn't viable

Sheet DPM is preferred when:

  • The substrate is large, flat and clear (typical new-build floor slab)
  • Higher absolute moisture-barrier performance is required (1200g+ polythene)
  • Speed of installation matters (rolling out a sheet is faster than two coats of liquid)

Application Notes

Most liquid DPMs require two coats. The substrate must be clean, sound and free from loose material. Some products (Visqueen Axiom, IKO Pro Synthaprufe) tolerate damp or "green" concrete; others (Everbuild 901) require a dry substrate. Check the product datasheet for specific surface preparation, coverage rate and drying-time requirements.
