Type 2 Wall Ties
The Go-To Tie for Everyday Masonry
Why pick a Type 2?
Most homes, schools and light-commercial builds sit under 15 m high and outside “very severe” wind zones. In these conditions a Type 2 tie gives all the restraint you need—0.7 kN tension / compression—without the extra cost or footprint of a heavy Type 1. Each tie below is Grade 304 (316 on request) stainless, drip-pressed to stop rain tracking and tested to BS EN 845-1 for full PD 6697 compliance.
Order before 12:00, spend £200 ex-VAT and your ties arrive next working day. Need spacing calcs? Phone 0118 922 7941—we’ll size them while you wait.

Key features at a glance
≥0.7 kN characteristic tension & compression —approved for buildings ≤15 m in towns/suburbs.
Deep drip centred in the cavity halts water migration.
Tangle-free ends (Vista EN2) speed bricklayers—no knots in the tie bucket.
2.5 ties / m² density keeps calculations simple; just double up at reveals and movement joints.
60-year design life in Inland or Coastal Zone 1; upgrade to 316 SS for Coastal Zone 2 (≤5 km from sea).
Add red insulation-retaining clips so partial-fill boards stay flush to the inner leaf.
Installation best practice
Lay ties on a 450 mm vertical × 900 mm horizontal grid (2.5 / m²).
Embed 50 ± 10 mm in each masonry leaf; keep the drip mid-cavity.
At storey-height DPCs, lap new ties over the course below by at least one brick length.
Slip a compression sleeve over ties where cavities exceed 150 mm to curb “whip”.
Within 150 mm of openings or movement joints, double-up the ties to four per square metre.
For façade panels longer than 12 m, add movement ties every 10–12 m.
FAQs
When must I use Type 2 instead of Type 4?
Whenever the building exceeds 10 m high or sits in a “moderate” wind zone (BS 6399 / Eurocode C2). Type 4 ties suit sheltered two-storey housing only.
Are galvanised Type 2 ties allowed?
Not in external masonry—stainless only. Galv versions are limited to internal leafs or below DPC.
Can I mix brands on one elevation?
Yes, if they share the same Type 2 classification and you maintain the 2.5 / m² density.
